Bomaid’s Dread Disease Benefit covers certain surgical interventions and surgery-related procedures linked to the specific conditions and/or diseases listed below*.
It is a once-off cover per incident per membership life and does not (unless otherwise specified) include pre- or post-surgical care or maintenance.
The following rules apply
NB. Some of the conditions listed below may be eligible for additional cover under the severe illness benefit (T’s and C’s apply).
Coronary Artery Disease
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where severely narrowed coronary arteries necessitate coronary bypass surgery or open heart surgery.
Valvular Heart Disease
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where there is medical proof of severe cardiac valvular dysfunction that requires surgical intervention such as valve replacement or repair.
Heart Failure
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where there is medical proof that the member requires major surgical intervention.
Cerebrovascular Accident/Stroke
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where there is medical proof that the member requires a major surgical intervention, such as a craniotomy. In these cases, rehabilitation therapy is included in the Dread Disease Benefit at an agreed-upon daily or global tariff for a period not exceeding 36 days.
End Stage Renal Failure
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where there is medical proof that the member requires a kidney transplant. Only the recipient Bomaid member will be covered by the benefit.
Leukaemia
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where there is medical proof that the member requires a bone marrow transplant. Only the recipient Bomaid member will be covered by the benefit. Any related treatments will fall within the In-Patient/Chronic Overall Limit as defined in Section 1.0 of the member’s scheme benefit schedule.
Cancer/Malignant Neoplastic Diseases
Dread Disease Benefit applies in cases where there is medical proof of a malignant cancer that requires major surgical intervention. Cerebral Aneurysm Grades III – V Dread Disease Benefit will only apply in cases where there is medical proof that the aneurysm is Grade III or above, and requires a major surgical intervention such as a craniotomy or ligation of blood vessels. In these cases, rehabilitation therapy is included in the Dread Disease Benefit at an agreed-upon daily or global tariff for a period not exceeding 36 days.
Organ Transplats
Dread Disease Benefit applies to the transplantation of heart, bone marrow, and kidneys. Only the recipient Bomaid member will be covered by the benefit.
