Botswana Medical Aid Society (Bomaid) partnered with Fyne Productions to launch what we now know as The Great Botswana Marathon. The marathon is a fitness event that celebrated Botswana’s 50 years of independence through strategically placed runs around the country and it is the first of its kind. It is a run that had routes which explored Botswana’s history, the monuments and landmarks. In addition, through it, Bomaid hopes to promote good health and to help people achieve their desired health and wellness goals. Even though Bomaid is the headline sponsor of the marathon, there were several supporting sponsors who made it a success.
“As Botswana’s leading private medical aid and through our values, we feel the need to support health related local events and to promote ourselves as a caring corporate citizen. Not only do these kind of initiatives benefit us in reinforcing our proposition of being at the heart of health, they also give us a platform to access a wide range of our target audience comprising of both existing and potential members through the participants and the media coverage,” said Bomaid’s Sales and Marketing Manager Mrs Beulah Mapitse.
The marathon was held in three major towns in the country; Francistown, Maun and Gaborone. The turn up at the marathons was fairly good especially for the Gaborone leg. The marathon rallied behind an existing fitness culture in the country. For Bomaid and for the country, the participation in The Great Botswana Marathon turned out to be a great community building and engagement initiative that celebrated BOT50 and it is a contribution to the development of a healthy nation.
Bomaid is a member based, not-for profit organisation, that is striving to take over an even bigger portion of the market share than that which they already have in the years to come.
